La Signature Marralech Recommends: Explore the Green Oasis of Cactus Thiemann

Discover the hidden jewel of Marrakesh – Cactus Thiemann, a sprawling cacti farm nestled on the lunar pistes of outer Marrakesh. Founded by Hans Thiemann, a passionate cacti lover, this 17-acre nursery boasts North Africa's largest collection of cacti, including giant aloe, agave, and prickly pear.

Embark on a fascinating guided tour through fields of these majestic plants, some of which are over 80 years old. The largest cactus, standing at an impressive 8 meters, was brought to Morocco in a souped-up military vehicle from Europe. Children can also enjoy camel rides amidst this botanical wonderland.

Originally an agricultural engineer, Thiemann's vision transformed the farm into a garden and research facility. Even after his passing in 2001, his legacy lives on through his widow Fatima and daughters Magda and Roselinde. Cactus Thiemann has supplied expertly grown cacti to renowned gardens in Marrakesh, including the iconic Jardin Majorelle.

While currently accessible only through guided tours, exciting developments are underway. The Thiemann family is constructing an information center, a self-guided trail, and a cozy café. Immerse yourself in the beauty and history of Cactus Thiemann – a journey recommended by La Signature Marralech.
